Racine County lies in the south-east corner of the great state of Wisconsin.  I've lived here all my life and have spent many hours exploring its fields, forests, rivers and lakes.  My goal of this website is to not only share the beauty that I've found while wandering this great county, but perhaps you'll be happy to share your stories as well.  From the eastern edge of Racine County which offers one of the most spectacular areas in all the country for great sunrises, to the hills and lakes of its western edge, there's much to explore and discover in all seasons.   The flora and fauna of Racine County have probably been documented and explored more than most of the counties of Wisconsin, beginning with Dr. Philo R. Hoy in 1846 and continuing to the present day.  In the pages beyond, I'll be sharing not only some of his sightings but also the observations others have made since that time until the present day.

So, my goal is two-fold.  First is the sharing of information gathered over the years.  This sharing will be provided by the written word and by photographs.  The second goal is certainly the most important of the two.  I often think that in our quest for "economic development", the political leaders of our county have made the decision there isn't any natural land worth protecting .  In my opinion, Racine county is bordered by counties that have all done a better job protecting their natural heritage than we have.  Perhaps by sharing, and reminding them of what we still have not lost, it will inspire our local and county leaders and planners to do a better job managing our quickly disappearing natural lands in the future.
